Modern marketing has made us think that many things are necessary, when in truth they are not. And when we are unable to get all those things that are shown to us as the way to happiness, we consider ourselves unsuccessful, frustrated and we feel disappointed and unhappy. How many times has it happened to us that we see an offer in commercials that looks and sound so good and attractive that we convince ourselves that we actually need that thing, that that things is worth paying for, and when we finally get it, we realize that it is not anything special?

The real truth is that the most beautiful things that can provide us the greatest pleasure are free or almost always available, and they are all around us: walking barefoot on the grass, laying down a summer night to look at the stars, enjoying a good and meaningful conversation with a friend, hearing the sound of the rain tapping our windows or finishing a book. Then just go for it: hug someone, have lunch with family and chat after lunch or play a board game, go for a long walk with friends, change your hairstyle, help someone in need, pet a cat, go swimming, send a message to the person that you miss, listen to your favorite music, joke with someone, give someone a compliment.

Changing Mindsets: One Simple Way to Do it

Most people have a relatively constant level of personal happiness and life satisfaction. This means that different positive events lead to an increase in the level of personal happiness. The change that leads to an increase in personal happiness is in fact a change of attitude.
To be happy, we should not only observe the beautiful and positive things in ourselves, others and the world, but we should specially regard them as important. As known, we experience emotions only when something is assessed as important.

To be happy, we should not only observe the beautiful and positive things around us, but we should regard them as important.

It is not enough to take a few days to focus on the positive, but it needs to become a habit – to establish a new way of thinking. Simple pleasures of life are always positive, but it is important to understand how important they are for us, and to make them a habit. Every night for three months, identify three good things that happened during the day. Ideally, use a special diary for it. If you manage to do it every night for three months, this little activity will become a habit that will significantly contribute to increasing your perception of personal happiness and life satisfaction.
